The Secure Child In-Home Program involves parents in a therapeutic experience that helps them see the attachment processes embedded in all relationships.
Often, where there is a child struggling with difficult behaviors, there is a parent struggling to know how to help. It is our belief that the best way to help children, is to help their caregivers. Supporting parents in the important work of raising kids, is the best way that we can think of to make a difference in a child's life.
When a child experiences the parent as able to help with underlying feelings and needs, big behavioral upsets are mitigated and the child is able to focus on developing the skills needed to take on the world. In a follow-up interview at the close of services, we asked an adolescent boy if his relationship with his dad had changed, and he replied,
"Well for one thing, he can read my mind now."
Building healthy connections is a lifelong process, and each new relationship brings with it amazing opportunities for growth. It is our goal to help parents recognize the unique strengths they bring to their relationships and to provide them with an experience that is dynamic, invigorating and transformative. As one parent put it,
"Before Secure Child, I used to just listen to the radio on my way to work, now I turn off the radio and reflect on my life."
